Bernie Mac Dies and University of Phoenix scares me

Bernie Mac, Dead at 50

One of my favorite comedians, Bernie Mac, died from complications of pneumonia at the age of 50. He will be missed.

In other, more personal news. I’m quite irritated at University of Phoenix right now. I just started my first class (2 weeks in) and my transfer credits have been combed over by their “expert”. I attended a local community college here in Omaha and have taken over 115 quarter hours of classes. Mostly being technical courses (internet technologies and general computer courses as well). 115 quarter hours = 76 semester hours… they only took 18 of those. This gives me, according to their time frame, a little over 2 years left on my bachelors degree. 5 week courses, 72 credits left, 3 credits per course = 1 pissed off student.

I’m in talks with my couselors and I’m hoping for the best. Wish me luck.

If all of your previous courses were technical, my guess is you only met the 18 elective credits. Unfortunately, that still means you need to meet the other general education credits (math, science, english). I was in a similar situation. Not sure what level you’re at, but if you are trying to get a Bachelor’s degree, you’re allowed to take 30 credits worth of CLEP Tests. That will eliminate a lot of time that you would have to spend in class.

    Chris,
The courses for my Bachelor’s Degree at UoP is technically oriented… several of the courses I’ve taken at my community college have the exact same descriptions and exact same titles! I might have to look into cleps cuz 30 credits = 10 classes = 50 weeks. I only have 4 classes for general education left (humanities, applied math, biology, and 1 other I don’t remember).

Still waiting reply from the counselors though. I might be able to take some UoP tests to test out of core courses like web design and database admin etc.
