Google Installs coming with Western Digital Hard Drive?

I recently purchased a Western Digital SATA300 - 500 GB Caviar SE 16 Hard Drive. The contents were: packaging, anti-static wrapper, a booklet, SATA cable, and an installation cd.

On that installation CD was Google Toolbar, Google Desktop, and Google’s semi-recently acquired Picasa. I’m all for bundled software and what not but why is Google going to great lengths to push their tools… which are ALL readily available online. Just looking for some insight/thoughts here.

I noticed this on my WD My Books that I got. It seems pretty unnecessary. I guess soon we’ll start getting their CDs a la AOL in the mail!

@Robert,
Yeah I think that’s where they’re headed… bull marketing.

*chuckle* Have you removed the Google links from your WordPress dashboard?

@drmike,
No, neither those nor technorati have served much purpose for me. I’m working on something super secret to add to the dashboard though that is MUCH more useful :)
